Edition Records welcomes music innovator Nils Petter Molvaer to Edition Records

Edition Records is thrilled to announce the signing of internationally recognised Norwegian artist Nils Petter Molvaer – a sonic rebel whose fearless reinvention of European and Nordic jazz has left an indelible mark on the musical landscape. In a new era, Nils Petter is set to unveil an ambitious release schedule in 2025, featuring three remarkable albums:

• Hamada (2009 Reissue): A digital release of his 2009 album Hamada, previously unavailable on digital platforms.
• Charlotte: A new film soundtrack for a Swiss production that pushes creative boundaries and showcases Molvaer’s expansive musical vision.
• Khmer Live: A live reimagining of his seminal 1998 record Khmer, originally released on ECM, a record that redefined modern jazz with its hypnotic blend of cool electronic understatement, world music and raw, rock-inflected energy.

Khmer Live is a reimagining live in concert capturing Molvaer’s relentless sonic exploration, merging live, unbridled energy with a fresh perspective on the classic album that once blurred the lines between ambient cool and visceral power. Khmer was a game-changer in its day, a record that shattered conventions and continues to echo through the corridors of modern jazz.

Dave Stapleton reflects on Nils’ unique sound and storied legacy:
“Nils Petter’s voice is truly one of a kind. His early influence on European jazz in the 2000s marked only the beginning of a bold and varied musical journey. Since then, he has built a discography that firmly establishes him as one of Europe’s greats. Not confining himself to the label of ‘jazz musician’, he’s an improviser whose expansive music exudes raw power, atmosphere, and an emotional depth that resonates profoundly.”

Nils Petter shared his personal reflections on joining Edition Records:
“Signing with Edition Records has been like finally finding a home. They get not only the music I create but the world in which it thrives. I’m absolutely thrilled to share this next chapter with listeners who understand the transformative power of sound.”

Throughout his illustrious career, Nils Petter Molvaer has continuously defied expectations and pushed the envelope of what jazz can be. His signature melding of atmospheric nuance with explosive improvisation has not only redrawn the boundaries of the genre but also inspired countless musicians worldwide. This signing is more than just a contract—it’s a bold step forward for both the artist and Edition Records, heralding a new era where legacy and innovation collide with unyielding force.
