Eleven drop out of major piano competition

Message from the Reine Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, which starts tomorrow:

As some of the 70 candidates have withdrawn, 60 pianists will participate in the first round, starting on Monday 5 May at 3pm. The names of the 24 semi-finalists will be announced on Saturday 10 May.

Due to personal reasons, Lilya Zilberstein (pictured) is unable to sit on the jury for the first round and the semi-final. Laura Mikkola joins the jury for all public rounds.

In the first round, the jury members are: Gilles Ledure (Chairman), Imogen Cooper, François-Frederic Guy, Momo Kodama, Denis Kozhukhin, Laura Mikkola, Anne Queffélec, Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden, Boyan Vodenitcharov and Anna Vinnitskaya.
