Evgeny Kissin condemns airline’s removal of Jewish children

Evgeny Kissin condemns airline’s removal of Jewish children

Message from the international pianist:

Dear Vueling Airlines,

I am writing to express my deep shock and outrage regarding the incident that occurred on July 23, 2025, involving your staff and a group of fifty Jewish children aboard one of your flights in Spain.

According to widely circulated reports and videos, these children—aged 10 to 15—were returning from a summer camp in France and were violently removed from the flight for briefly singing Hebrew songs. Their 21-year-old chaperone was arrested, reportedly handcuffed in front of the children, and the Spanish police went so far as to demand access to the children’s phones—without consent or legal justification.

This appalling treatment is not only discriminatory but dangerously reminiscent of darker times in European history. Singling out Jewish minors for peacefully expressing their heritage is a blatant act of antisemitism. The fact that your staff reportedly referred to Israel as a “terrorist state” only deepens the gravity of this incident.

Where is Vueling’s accountability? Where is your apology? Where is your humanity?

This is not a minor misunderstanding—it is a major breach of ethics, decency, and the rights of passengers. Jewish children should not be made to feel unsafe on any airline, anywhere in the world.

We demand:

A public apology from Vueling Airlines.

A thorough investigation into the actions of your staff.

Immediate disciplinary measures for those involved.

Concrete steps to ensure such an incident never happens again.

Silence is complicity. The world is watching.

Sincerely,

Evgeny Kissin

Editorial note: Vueling, based in Barcelona, is operated by the owners of British Airways.
