French opera chief is found dead at home

The formative director of Saint-Etienne opera, Jean Louis Pichon, has been found dead at his home, local media have reported. He was 77. The cause of death is under investigation.

Pichon ran his hometown opera house from 1983 to 2008, staging several festivals of the works of local here Massenet.

He also directed operas in China and Chile, and was a judge for Placido Domingo’s Operalia.
