French sax suffers double loss

French sax suffers double loss

Two leading French saxophonists have died almost simultaneously.

The renowned classical player Jean-Marie Londeix passed away in the early hours of Monday morning at the age of 92. He championed contemporary composers, among them Olivier Messiaen, Henri Sauguet and Edison Denisov.

Later that day, tenor saxophonist Éric Barret died after a fall during a mountain hike. He was 66.

A reserved man, he released one album every ten years.
