Gidon Kremer leads tributes to the late Gubaidulina

Gidon Kremer leads tributes to the late Gubaidulina

We have received this message from the eminent violinist:

In tiefster Trauer-Ihr Gidon (Kremer)

The news is both expected and devastatingly sad.

Sofia meant so much to me – she was (and will remain) a tremendous support on my life’s journey.

The magical sounds she bestowed upon me and the world will continue to enrich everyone who comes into contact with them.

With the many works that Sofia dedicated to me and my Kremerata, she left a mark that will forever resonate… It is music for eternity.

She herself is freed from suffering – it is our duty to carry Sofia’s sounds forward.

In deepest sorrow – yours, Gidon (Kremer)

Condutor Mikhail Agrest writes: ‘One of the most inspiring and otherworldly human beings I have ever met. I remember our first conversation in the canteen in a rehearsal break. For the first time in my life I understood what spirituality really means. She always came to all the rehearsals and was so generous and open. The world is much emptier place now.’
