Italian Gala Lyrique

Italian Gala Lyrique

The Sicilian conductor Francesco Angelico makes his debut at the Opéra de Montpellier with an exceptional operatic programme focused entirely on Italian repertoire.  This is streamed for Slippedisc readers courtesy of OperaVision.

A connoisseur of the works of Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Cilea, Leoncavallo and Boito, Francesco Angelico conducts a programme that tells the story of a bright tenor (Oreste Cosimo) in love with the soprano (Yunuet Laguna), who, hélas, is already married to the baritone (Gezim Myshketa). Staged by Franciska Éry, director in residence at the Opéra de Montpellier, expect jealous spats, lovesick arias and other emotional declarations in music, to which the chorus, as an attentive witness to the protagonists’ dilemmas, add their own musical commentary.
