Join the Biggest Music Careers Event in the North: Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Music Industry Careers Fest

The largest annual music industry careers event for young people in the North of England is back. Delivered in partnership with leading music organisations including Universal Music, Spotify, UK Music, AdLib, PLASA, LIPA, Revere Arts and LIMF Academy, Music Industry Careers Fest is the perfect opportunity for anyone interested in a career in music to explore the industry, network with professionals, and connect with like-minded individuals.

This year’s event is proud to announce Jonny Abraham, composer, orchestral musician, and member of the band Public Service Broadcasting, as the Keynote Speaker. Jonny will be joined by Freelance Broadcaster Ellie Ajao for a Q&A to share his experience and insights into the dynamic world of music.

In addition to the keynote address, the Careers Fest will feature a range of engaging workshops, demonstrations, and talks from industry experts, including:

‘Careers in the Music Recording Industry’ led by Bryan Johnson, Head of Artist & Industry Partnerships at Spotify
‘Careers in Classical Music’ presented by DECCA Records
‘Social Media Planning in the Music Industry’ hosted by Howard Monk, Chief Executive Officer, The WRD.
Other exciting offerings include a masterclass on networking, curating your CV, and presenting yourself in the best possible light for a career in music. Additionally, an interactive workshop will guide attendees on how to run a soundcheck, create a promo plan in just 30 minutes, and build a portfolio career.

With more to be announced, this event will cover a broad spectrum of career opportunities within the music industry, including performing, composing, songwriting, sound engineering, technical and production roles, music journalism, recording, management, music education, creative health, and much more.

The Music Careers Marketplace will feature representatives and employers from leading organisations, including Universal Music UK, The Royal Northern College of Music, LIPA, UK Music, Access Industry, Ditto Music, FutureYard, JAMES (Joint Audio Media Education Support), Musician’s Union, Resonate, SAE & ICMP, Scrapyard Studios, City of Liverpool College, Edge Hill University, University of Liverpool, The WRD, LMA, and WaterBear College of Music.

Tickets cost £10 for the entire day, Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult. Adults will need to purchase their own ticket.

The Concours de Genève is now accepting applications for its 2025/2026 viola and conducting competitions, offering talented musicians the opportunity to take part in one of the world’s most prestigious international music competitions. VIOLACOMPETITION2025 The viola competition is open to candidates born after 12 November 1995. The deadline for registration is 10 April 2025. Forty shortlisted candidates will present a video recital, which will be broadcast online from 8 to 14 September 2025. From these, eight semi-finalists will be selected to take part in the semi-final and final rounds in Geneva from 6 to 12 November 2025. The three finalists will perform with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, presenting L. Albisetti’s compulsory concerto Nouvel Élan – winner of the 2024 composition competition – as well as a concerto of their choice from a set of prescribed pieces. Legendary violist Tabea Zimmermann, winner of the first prize at the Concours de Genève in 1982, will chair the international jury alongside Tomoko Akasaka, Ettore Causa, Hsin-Yun Huang, Cynthia Phelps, Jean Sulem and German Tcakulov. CONDUCTINGCOMPETITION2025/2026 The conducting competition is open to candidates born after 13 November 1991. The deadline for entries is 7 May 2025. Lasting two years, the competition will begin with the first two rounds from 31 October to 3 November 2025, followed by the semi-finals and final in November 2026. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct prestigious ensembles, including the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, the Ensemble Contrechamps and the Haute école de musique de Genève Orchestra. Between the 2025 and 2026 editions, the six semi-finalists will take part in masterclasses, workshops and professional meetings. The official jury, made up of conductors, composers and renowned experts, will be announced shortly. PRIZESANDCAREERDEVELOPMENTPROGRAMME In addition to a wide range of official and special prizes, the winners will benefit from the Concours de Genève’s career development programme, which offers them performance opportunities and industry support to help launch their international careers.
