Just in: Leipzig renews Nelsons to 2032

Andris Nelsons will remain Gewandhauskapellmeister until 2032, it was confirmed this morning.

His plans include further collaboration with the Boston Symphony, where he has a rolling contract.

press statement:
In his third term in office, Andris Nelsons intends to further expand on the highly successful projects he has already initiated. This includes the unique collaboration between the Gewandhaus Orchestra (GHO) and the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), which is very close to his heart due to his dual role as Chief Conductor of both orchestras. Joint projects, such as the most recent one-of-a-kind Shostakovich Festival 2025 in Leipzig, are a key focus. The collaboration may include joint concert residencies as part of tours, projects in Boston and/or Leipzig, or joint media projects. Furthermore, the collaboration between the training centers of both orchestras (Mendelssohn Orchestra Academy and Tanglewood Music Center) is to be further intensified.
