Just in: Remote US orchestra gets  million gift

An anonymous donor has made one of the largest known bequests to an orchestra, and it’s going to Sarasota, in the state of Florida,

The money will go to building a 1,700-seat concert hall and a 700-seat recital hall, with rehearsal rooms, offices, and educational facilities. How is that done? The donor made an initial $10 million commitment to help secure the land at 5701 Fruitville Road debt-free, and later committed an additional $50 million investment.

The orchestra recently chose Giancarlo Guerrero as music director.
