The Herbert von Karajan Prize, founbded in 2017 by his widow Eliette, is to be awarded today to the soprano Nadezhda Karyazina, making her debut at the Salzburg Easter Festival, and to Maxim Emelyanychev who is conducting Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah at the festival.
Each receives 50,000 Euros.
Karyazina sings the role of Marfa in Modest Mussorgsky’s ‘Khovanshchina’. She is a former member of the Hamburg State Opera ensemble.
