Sigrid Kehl started out as a mezzo at Leipzig Opera and upscaled to soprano, singing in all major Wagner productions for more than 35 years, from 1957 until the Wall came down.
Abroad, she sang in Naples, Bologna, Vienna, Prague, Moscow and Budapest.
