Lisbon teminates Dutchman ‘with immediate effect’

Germans appoint Lithuanian GMD

The Teatro Nacional de São Carlos has fired its Dutch artistic director Ivan van Kalmthout abruptly and without explanation. His contract was due to run another three years.

In a statement last night, the theatre’s board said: ‘The artistic activity of the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, namely the preparation and presentation of the 2024-2025 season, will continue with the greatest serenity, fulfilling its respective public service obligations.’
