The Chorus is shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of our beloved Seth Malkin. A member of the company since 1996, Seth sang bass in the Metropolitan Opera Chorus after having performed principal bass roles at Carnegie Hall, New York City Opera, and around the world. Seth had also performed on Broadway, at Madison Square Garden, and on national tour, where he honed his performing and dancing skills, which were then exhibited at the Met in countless productions.
Seth performed and covered over 220 solos at the Met, and was often featured in chorus dance scenes. Seth was always quick to volunteer for outreach programs, and was happy to share his gifts, ranging from singing to panel discussions and masterclasses. He loved horseback riding and considered himself a modern-day cowboy, which was often the subject of his New York City cabaret performances.
We will miss his talent, his wry sense of humor, his self-deprecating humility, and his willingness to display his emotions in person as well as on stage. Most of all, we will miss his presence in our lives. Our hearts go out to his wife Thea Parraga, his brother Michael, and all who loved him.
