A new choir starts rehearsing this week in Glasgow as the National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCOS) is expanding its nationwide network of regional choirs with the launch of a brand-new regional choir in Glasgow. The NYCOS Glasgow Choir will hold its first rehearsal on 16 September and is open to young people aged 8-18, welcoming both experienced singers and those who may never have sung in a choir before
As NYCOS celebrates its 30th anniversary year, it looks to inspire the next generation of young singers and ensure that even more children across Scotland can experience the benefits of making music together.
Alongside weekly choir rehearsals, the Glasogow choir will offer singers musicianship training rooted in the Kodály approach, a child-centred method that develops musical understanding through singing, listening, movement and games. Rather than focusing solely on learning repertoire, young people are encouraged to develop a deep understanding of music itself, strengthening skills such as rhythm, pitch, listening and inner hearing in a fun and engaging environment.
