Neumeier’s ballet company spirals into chaos

Neumeier’s ballet company spirals into chaos

Der Spiegel reports that 36 of the 63 dancers of the Hamburg Ballet have written to the cultural senator complaining about ‘a toxic working environment’. Five of the 11 First Soloists have resigned after falling out with John Neumeier’s successor, Demis Volpi.

The Argentine, 39, is accused of poor leadership, lack of artistic expertise and mistrust for his staff.

One of the departing dancers, Alexander Trusch, told Spiegel: ‘For me, this man is a charlatan. He’s very good at selling his vision, but the quality he delivers is abysmal.’
