What does it say that the classical season remains fully intact, while artists with public stature, integrity, and independent drawing power have stepped away—or been pushed out? The implication is damning: that classical musicians appear willing to remain complicit in a system increasingly shaped by propaganda, while those with reputations beyond the institution have refused to play along.
It evokes uncomfortable parallels—such as high profile conductors who stayed in Germany during WW2. The regime changes, and some adapt. But history remembers who stayed silent—and who walked away.
So – why not?
