Orchestra to be conducted by a seven year-old girl

Orchestra to be conducted by a seven year-old girl

Message from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra:

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is set to dazzle audiences with a spectacular performance of Barbie: The Movie in Concert on Wednesday, July 16 at 7:00pm, promising an unforgettable evening of cinematic and musical magic. The record-shattering, full-length feature film will be accompanied by a live orchestra, performing both the score and the beloved pop songs from the iconic soundtrack.

Adding a heartwarming twist to this highly-anticipated event, the VSO’s Second Assistant Concertmaster Jennie Press will be sharing the stage with her 7-year old daughter, Lauryn, who will make her Orpheum debut to conduct the orchestra for a brief but memorable segment during Billie Eillish’s Oscar-winning Best Original Song, “What Was I Made For?”

This special appearance showcases Lauryn’s budding passion for music, offering her a special opportunity to lead one of Canada’s premier orchestras and join her accomplished mother on stage. Lauryn studies violin at the VSO School of Music and recently performed in the School’s Strings Festival where her mom also serves as faculty.
