Pianist Schiff lands 15 million yen

The 2025 Praemium Imperiale Award for music has been allocated to the Hungarian pianist Andras Schiff.

It’s worth just over $100,000 and a handshake from royalty.

Schiff lives in the UK, Italy, Switzerland and Japan.

This year’s other laureates are Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (dance), Peter Doig (painting), Marina Abramović (sculpture) and Eduardo Souto de Moura (Architecture).
