Russian bass, RIP

The death has been announced of Mariinsky soloist Sergei Aleksashkin, aged 72.

He sang abroad at La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, the Washington Opera, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Rome Opera, Hamburg, Opéra National de Lyon, Madrid Opera, San Francisco, Gothenburg, Santiago, Royal Festival Hall, the Concertgebouw, Santa Cecilia, Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall and the Barbican.
