Russian pianist, 84

One of the last students of Alexander Goldenweiser, the Moscow pianist Nelly Akopian Tamarina died today at the age of 84.

Banned for a while by the Soviets, she taught in London at the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music and made several recordings.

She was also a gifted painter.
