Audra Macdonald
One of the shows I most wanted to see in New York was the new production of Gypsy starring the wonderful Audra Macdonald. Sadly, the tickets prices are so outrageous – a good orchestra seat is $594 while a rear mezzanine, at the back of the theatre, is $137 – that I had to give up on that ambition.
Instead, here is the aforementioned wonderful Audra Macdonald (did I mention that she is wonderful?) singing Summertime in honour of Martin Luther King. It’s not Jule Styne’s Gypsy but it’s George Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess and who can cavil at that?
As a bonus, here too is Make Someone Happy from Jule Styne’s Do Re Mi. That’s two for the price of one. Goosebump time……….
