Ruth Leon recommends.. Special Selection of Schubert songs from Wigmore Hall

Schubert at the Wigmore Hall

One of my best Christmas presents this year came from Wigmore Hall which made this beautiful selection of sublime songs available to us, the audience, free, this week.

The live audience in the Hall was so attentive that there wasn’t a sound between songs – not a clap, not a cough – so I thought the singers were performing in an empty Hall. Only after all songs had been sung was there the richly deserved applause that the performance deserved.

These performances by some of our best chamber singers accompanied by the fine pianist James Baillieu, fully deserved the roof-raising reception they got at the end. They are Ailish Tynan, soprano; Anja Mittermüller, and mezzo-soprano; Marcus Farnsworth, baritone.

Thank you, John Gilhooly (Wigmore Hall’s Artistic and Executive Director) for this lovely festive gift.

Auf dem Wasser zu singen D774 – Marcus Farnsworth
Nacht und Träume D827 – Ailish Tynan
Sei mir gegrüsst D741 – Anja Mittermuller
Meeres Stille D215a – Marcus Farnsworth
Am Tage aller Seelen D343 – Anja Mittermuller
An die Musik D547 – Ailish Tynan
English translations of the songs can be found on  https://www.schubertsong.uk/
