Salzburg artistic director is banned from local cafe

Salzburg artistic director is banned from local cafe

The persistent journalist Axel Brüggemann has obtained confirmation of long-running rumours that the artistic director of the Salzburg Festival Markus Hinterhäuser has been blacklisted by the Cafe Bazar, a popular watering hole.

Ours not to reason why, but the Salzburg press office has told Axel that ‘apart from the Café Bazar , there are no comparable situations in Salzburg’s restaurants for the artistic director of the Salzburg Festival.’

Which must be a relief.

Bazar has been open daily since September 1909. Its guest book contains autographs by Stefan Zweig, Max Reinhardt, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Marlene Dietrich, Bertha Zuckerkandl, Thomas Mann, Thomas Bernhard, Arturo Toscanini, Romy Schneider and Seiji Ozawa.
