The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra rolled out Simon Rattle’s third season this morning.
It features a call-out to amateur orchestras across Bavaria to join the orchestra in the great big sing-a-ding, culminating in Carmina Burana.
Following the success of the “Symphonic Hoagascht” with Bavarian brass bands, Rattle is launching another participatory project. This time, amateur choirs from all over Bavaria can apply to sing alongside the BR Chorus and BRSO in Singen mit Sir Simon – viele Chöre ein Orchester. The project will culminate in joint rehearsals in Munich in 2026 and concerts at the Circus Krone building, Munich, and the Kissinger Sommer festival, featuring Orff’s Carmina Burana, among others.
Other highlights include a centennial concert performance of Wozzeck, new work by Olga Neuwirth and a baroque evening led from the violin by Rachel Podger. Rattle will take the orchestra on a 12-city tour that includes his home town Liverpool.
London, anyone?
Still no new concert hall in sight in Munich.
