Singer bans Gary Lineker from his father’s memorial

Singer bans Gary Lineker from his father’s memorial

The classical recitalist Mark Glanville has vetoed a tribute by ex-BBC football commentator Gary Lineker at a memorial ceremony for his father, the distinguished writer Brian Glanville.

Mark Glanville said he would not allow Lineker ‘anywhere near’ the event at St Bride’s Church, Fleet Street.

He added: ‘”I can’t have somebody coming to speak at my dad’s memorial service who, though not anti-Semitic, is someone who is giving ammunition to people who are anti-Semites. Once you share a picture of a rat which is associated with Nazis, you really are crossing a line.’
