Top trumpet crawls home to Chicago

The Chicago Symphony has announced that Esteban Batallán is returning as its principal trumpet, ‘following the conclusion of a one-year leave from the Orchestra’.

What is doesn’t say is that Batallán joined the Philadelphia Orchestra, with a blazing fanfare, but things did not turn out well.

Neither orchestra is saying another word.
