A wealthy businessman has hired the Toronto Symphony and the Amadeus Chorus for a public performance of Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony on Wednesday at Roy Thomson Hall.
Musicians are said to be uneasy but none will say anything on the record.
The guest conductor’s name is Mandle Cheung. He’s a tech entrepreneur with a private occasional orchestra, the Mandle Philharmonic, with which he learns new scores.

I’m reaching out on behalf of the Mandle Philharmonic in partnership with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, to personally invite you to attend a landmark performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection” on June 25, 2025, at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto.
This concert will be conducted by Mandle Cheung, and will feature the Amadeus Choir, bringing together over 150 musicians and vocalists for one of Mahler’s most monumental works. It’s a rare and powerful program that hasn’t been performed in Toronto since 2019.
