Valery Gergiev sets up yet another outpost

The acting Head of the Komi Republic Rostislav Goldstein has opened negotiations with the artistic and general director of the Mariinsky Theater Valery Gergiev on opening a branch of the Mariinsky Theater in Komi, a northwestern satellite of the Russian Federation.

Gergiev, 72, also has an offshoot in Vladivostok and runs the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

There are no limits to his ambitions – within Russian borders.
