Philippe Jordan last night conducted his final appearance as music director at the Vienna State Opera and says he won’t be back in the forseeable future.
No successor has been named. It has been reported that the post of music director has been abolished.
Jordan says: ‘If the music director is number 2, i.e. subordinate to the artistic director – then a possible conflict is inevitable.’
He’s about to become chief conductor of the Orchestre National de Paris.
Such was the tension in Vienna that there seems to be no photograph in which Jordan appears with intendant Bogdan Roscic.
