Vienna’s new Tannhäuser is in Albert Speer style

Vienna’s new Tannhäuser is in Albert Speer style

We march from freedom and decadence to a place where all of that is frowned upon. In 1937, there was the “Degenerate Art” exhibition, which precisely defined what art should be. We then move the third act to a kind of social desert. People live isolated lives in front of their screens; rituals like communal celebrations are a thing of the past. One could see this as a warning for the future. Where are we headed without Tannhäuser, without the artist?
