Vikingur lets down London fans

Vikingur lets down London fans

We are hearing from disappointed concertgoers who booked flights to attend Víkingur Ólafsson’s Wigmore Hall recital of Beethoven and Schubert sonatas, only to be informed today that the Icelandic pianist has reverted to last year’s overworked programme of Bach’s Goldberg Variations.

It llooks like he’s taking the audience for granted.

Here’s the letter that went out:

Víkingur Ólafsson piano

Dear

Thank you for booking the above concert.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Víkingur Ólafsson (piano) has had to change the programme for the above concert. He is delighted to present Bach’s Goldberg Variations for his Wigmore Hall solo debut recitals.

The duration of this concert has therefore changed and will now be approximately 90 minutes,
without an interval.

The programme will now be as follows:
Bach Goldberg Variations BWV988

Previously advertised as
Bach I. Prelude from The Well-tempered Clavier Book I, Prelude and Fugue No. 9 in E major BWV854
Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 9 in E Op. 14 No. 1
Bach Partita No. 6 in E minor BWV830
Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 27 in E minor Op. 90
Schubert Piano Sonata in E minor D566
Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 30 in E Op. 109
