Violinist, 18, is killed by hit-and-run driver

The young Turkish violinist Laçin Akyol, a music student in Switzerland, has been killed by a speeding car while visiting home in Mersin. The driver has been placed under house arrest.

Laçin, whose parents are artists at the Mersin State Opera and Ballet, played a violin gifted to her as a child by the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
