What’s Esa-Pekka doing in Tanglewood?

What’s Esa-Pekka doing in Tanglewood?

Conspiracy theorists are chattering about the Finnish conductor’s first appearance at the summer festival in four decades. Salonen got on well with Boston Symphony Prez Chad Smith when both were at the LA Phil. Boston has a rolling contract with its music director Andris Nelsons, who is not a Chad buddy. What else was unrolled today at Tanglewood? A new John Williams piano concerto will be premiered by Emanuel Ax. Andris Nelsons conducts Tosca in concert with Andris, Kristine Opolais and Bryn Terfel. Bryn will also appear in recital with his wife accompanying on the harp. Yuja Wang will play Prokmofiev’s second concerto in the Leonard Bernstein memorial concert.
