Winners and splitters at Germany’s premier awards

Winners and splitters at Germany’s premier awards

The Opus Klassik awards are so diffuse it is hard to tell who comes out top and who’s got the going-home present.

There are four awards, for instance, for Young Talent of the Year. What, four of them, all equally gifted?

And three more for Classics Without Limits, whatever that is.

And how about Innovative Listening Experience of the Year? Under that title, it ought to be awarded to the listener.

Cut to the chase.

Baton of the year is Joana Mallwitz for her Kurt Weill disc on DG.

Daniel Blumberg wins film score of the year for The Brutalist.

Concert recording of the year is Thielemann and Levit in a Brahms concerto.

Singers of the year are Emily D’Angelo (Canada) and Benjamin Bernheim (France).
