In Toronto last night, during the National Youth Orchestra of Canada’s concert, violinist Justin Saulnier had his E peg pop in the middle of Prokofiev’s second concerto. Not missing a beat, he swapped instruments with the concertmaster and polished off the piece.
Saulnier, 20, plays a 1680 Ruggeri violin.
This was a farewell concert for music director Naomi Woo, a protégé of Yannick Nézet-Séguin at the Orchestre Métropolitain in Montreal, where she is now artistic partner.
