Just in: Klaus Mäkelä’s girlfriend lands new job

Just in: Klaus Mäkelä’s girlfriend lands new job

Ever since he parted from Yuja Wang, the multi-job Finnish conductor has been going out with a Norwegian violinist Amanda Håøy Horn.

Amanda has been deputising in the strings of the Oslo Philharmonic, amid some ill-suppressed collegial dissent.

So she has gone out and got herself a new job as second violin of the long-established Engegård Quartet, now entering its 20th season.

She says: ‘From the very first moment with the Engegård Quartet, I felt among kindred spirits, with the same love for quartet-playing and the string quartet repertoire. It is a gift to join a group which has found its united voice, and the fact that Norwegian and Scandinavian
music—including folk, classical, and contemporary—are an important part of the quartet’s profile makes me feel at home in more
ways than one. I’m excited about what lies ahead!’

What could be nicer?

The quartet’s new publicity photograph (below) is credited to Klaus Mäkelä.
