On Thursday 24 September at St James Garlickhythe Church in central London, pianist Christopher Glynn will perform and host an evening of live music in support of the charity Music in Hospitals & Care, being joined by soprano Rowan Pierce and oboist Julia White.
Music in Hospitals & Care is a charity that improves the health and wellbeing of children and adults through the healing power of live music, and funds raised from the event will help the charity continue reaching people in hospitals, care homes and community spaces across the UK, where live music can make a meaningful difference.
The programme brings together classical works and film music, with Purcell’s Music for a while alongside Schubert’s An die Musik, Howells’ King David, Morricone’s Gabriel’s Oboe from The Mission, and music from The Sound of Music and Amélie.
Christopher Glynn explains: “The programme is a celebration of music in its many different roles, moving between songs and melodies in which it is praised, imagined, remembered and shared. We begin and end with ‘Music, for a while, shall all your cares beguile’. The opening line of one of Purcell’s most famous songs gives this programme its starting point: the idea that music can console, delight, stir memories, lift spirits and bring people together.”
Music in Hospitals & Care believes live music needs to be part of everyone’s health and social care. Why? Because research shows that live music heals.
