A new opera company is presenting its inaugural production at the Cockpit in Marylebone next month. OutLoud! is performing Engelbert Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October. The family friendly production is reduced to 60 minutes duration (interval free) and sung in English. Hansel and Gretel is directed by William Byram and the musical director is Adam Dickson, with designs by Jackie Crier.
The production features Rozanna Madylus as Hansel, Anna Gregg as Gretel and Mae Heydorn in the triple role of Mother, Witch and Sandman. There will also be 11 young artists from BWA Performing Arts, a South London dance school. The result is planned to be a ‘fun, campy production’!
This production marks the launch of a new opera company that aims to amplify queer stories through reworkings of the canon and the performance and commission of new works by LGBTQ+ composers, writers, and creative teams.
