London Opera Company returns to Smith Square with full-scale performance of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde

Wagner’s Die Walküre – The London Opera Company at Smith Square Hall in 2023

Following sold out performances of Götterdammerung, Die Walküre [see my review] and Siegfried [see Tony’s review], the London Opera Company is back at Smith Square Hall on Sunday 18 October 2026 for a performance of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde. The cast includes Neal Cooper as Tristan, Cara McHardy as Isolde, Simon Thorpe as King Marke, Harriet Williams as Brangäne and Ronald Samm as Melot. 

Peter Selwyn conducts. Selwyn conducted Der fliegende Holländer at Opera Holland Park last year [see my review] which featured Neal Cooper (London Opera Company’s Tristan) as Erik. Cooper also sang the title role in Siegfried in Grimeborn Festival’s production of Wagner’s opera in 2022 [see my review]. Cara McHardy who sings Isolde, has performed Brünnhilde and Isolde for London Opera Company.

The cast will be joined by an orchestra led by Katherine Shave made up of a core of professionals playing alongside the best post-graduates from London’s top music colleges, and passionate Wagner-loving players from London’s top amateur orchestras. The 25-strong chorus also mixes professionals and amateurs, with Lindsay Bramley as chorus director.
