Rattle and RPO to make Lucerne debuts

Rattle and RPO to make Lucerne debuts

Before the various PR flood my inbox with protests, let me specify that the two elements above are not appearing together.

Simon Rattle will conduct the Lucerne Festival Orchestra for the first time in his life on August 23 in a Shostakovich and Mahler concert.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will appear on the following day with Vasily Petrenko and Anne-Sophie Mutter.

No other UK orchestra is featured this year.
