Singers boycott Christmas at cathedral that sacked music director

Singers boycott Christmas at cathedral that sacked music director

If you’re spending Christmas in Perth, Australia, take care before attending Roman Catholic Midnight Mass.

More than a dozen members of St Mary’s Cathedral choir will be staying away in protest at the dismissal of Jacinta Jakovcevic, who was made redundant as director of music after 24 years.

Her dismissal followed a review commissioned by the Dean of the Cathedral, Father Sean Fernandez.

Chorus members are saying there was no due process.

Whatever the case, Christmas looks bleak in Perth.
