From Ulla Miilmann, principal flute of Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra:
First day of touring with Danish National Symphony Orchestra and I forget my orchestra reading glasses. I go into a random optometrist shop and explain my story. A gentleman is listening, saying to me: my father used to conduct your orchestra a lot. His name was KURT SANDERLING!
Only in Berlin!!
Sanderling taught me so much about playing Shostakovich- when he spoke it was almost as if you were there, being taken back into the past. I miss those kinds of conductors and those kinds of moments so much.
For now it’s the amazing Fabio Luisi for the next 12 days across Central Europe. I’m a very lucky musician.
