Breaking: Opera tears up its plans as Lise withdraws to have babies

Friends of Lise Davidsen are delighted to learn that she is pregnant… and with twins. She has cancelled all performances this uear after Fidelio at the Metropolitan Opera.

Every major opera house and festival is scrambling to replace her.

The Met and Covent Garden have built a Ring cycle around her. She was due to sing Arabella at the Met (not yet announced) in the fall. Dominoes aare tumbling as I write.

Here’s the businesslike statement put out by her people:

Lise Davidsen today announces that due to her pregnancy she will be withdrawing from her scheduled performances after she has finished the run of Fidelio at the Metropolitan Opera in March. She is planning to return to performing in early 2026.
