German president’s concert is more than half American

German president’s concert is more than half American

Sunday’s annual charity fundraiser by the German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier did not contain a single work by a German or Austrian composer. Very outward looking, especially towards the US.

Here’s the rundown:

George Enescu – Romanian Rhapsody No. 1 in A major, op. 11

Maurice Ravel – Shéhérazade

Erich Wolfgang Korngold – Concerto in C major for cello and orchestra, op. 37 (composed in US exile)

André Previn – Vocalise for Soprano, Cello and Orchestra (composed by a US exile)

Leonard Bernstein – Symphonic Dances from “West Side Story”

The WDR Symphony Orchestra was conducted by Cristian Măcelaru at the Cologne Philharmonic Hall. Concert starts at 10:40.
