The Icelandic musician Jònas Ingimundarson, known as Mr Piano in his homeland, died on Monday, aged 80.
Aside from his solo career, he was a cherished accompanist to the country’s leading singers.
His son, Haukur, writes:
My beloved father Jónas Ingimundarson pianist died 14 April full of life days in the arms of my mother Agústa Hauksdóttir… His funeral will be on the 23rd. april at. 15.00 in the Cathedral in Reykjavík. Sincere thanks to all our friends, well-wishers and benefactors; and a very special thanks to the healthcare, National Hospital and Home Care staff for their exceptional decades-long service! We live in a unique way of life, social beauty and artistry in this country! Let’s stick to it!
