Just in: Birmingham maestro takes Berlin job

Just in: Birmingham maestro takes Berlin job

The CBSO music director Kazuki Yamada, who last renewed his contract for just two years, signed on this morning as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. He starts work in September 2026.

Yamada, 46, already lives with his family in Berlin. He commutes to Birmingham as required.

The move places him at the heart of the world’s busiest and most prestigious orchestra capital. Yamada has a second well-paid job with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic which ends in August 2026 (neat how the agents make these things work).

Today’s news is good for him, tough for Brum.
