More white smoke: Cleveland has a concertmaster

More white smoke: Cleveland has a concertmaster

The orchestra has just let is be known that Joel Link of the Dover Quartet is to be its new concertmaster, starting in July.

The seat was vacated in March last year by David Radzynski, who lasted less than two years. Link will continue to appear with the Dover Quartet, necessitating further adjustments by Cleveland managers.

Music Director Franz Welser-Möst said: ‘Joel is an exceptional violinist and an outstanding musician. He has a chamber music approach to
leadership and ensemble playing, which lends itself very well to this Orchestra. I very much look forward to working with him.’

The Dover Quartet have affirmed their intention to continue with the same lineup: Huge congratulations to our first violinist Joel Link, who was announced today as the next Concertmaster of The Cleveland Orchestra! As you may already know, our violist Julianne Lee will be returning to the Boston Symphony Orchestra this summer in her position as Assistant Principal Second Violin.

With these changes, we’ve had a chance to think about the quartet’s future and reflect on our very special personal and artistic bond. The truth is, we can’t imagine not making music together. Today, we are overjoyed to announce that we are staying together in our current configuration: Joel, Bryan, Julianne, and Camden!
