Not the Boulez centenary

Not the Boulez centenary

The composer Georges Delerue attended Olivier Messiaen’s class at the Paris Conservatoire alongside Pierre Boulez.

Both reached their centenary this year.

Delerue became a prolific c omposer for film and TV with more than 350 scores to his credit. He was first-choice composer for Francois Truffaut, Jean-Luc Goddard, Louis Malle and Bernardo Bertolucci. Ken Russell masw a BBC documentary about him, Don’t Shoot the Composer.

The price of his success was a Boulez-inspired ban on his concert works.

Time to change that tune?
