The 17th Van Cliburn Competition formed a media partnership with Gramophone magazine.

All fine and dandy.

But Gramphone’s reviews of the competition have been done from home.

Critic Jed Distler clarifies: Before discussing Friday’s performances, I should remind readers that I’m currently reviewing from The Cliburn’s livestream, where the clear and close-up sonic perspective apparently contrasts to Bass Performance Hall’s resonant ambience.
